The River Trial 2024
What’s in a name?
What’s in a name? Actually the name says it all… This event will run as a new series in the Trial Club family of events and will follow the course of a new European river every edition. The main focus on these River Trial events will be on the social aspect, the scenery and plenty of time to have your lunch and take in the sights you would miss out on in different events. We will run two different classes in this event. The Tour Class and the Trial Class.
What is the River Trial?
The River Trial is a six day Trial for classic and pre-war cars which takes place in the late spring/ early summer of early fall.
The selected route will incorporate nice lunches, places to visit, the best available hotel and guarantees a unique experience. The aim is not to exceed 250 km a day (depending on hotel location) to ensure a relaxed drive for all.
You may have noticed the single form in the word Hotel? We will accommodate all the participants in a river cruiser that will find port in all our overnight stay’s along the river. Therefore, you can leave your luggage in your room and still sleep in a different town every night!
What can you expect?
Start 26 October 2024
Finish 30 October 2024
Cars Modern sportscars and convertibles
Classic cars build before 1986
Pre-war and specials built before 1950
Length approx. 1.000 km
Navigation type Basic map reading & tulips
Competition will be there but we will keep this a surprise for now. It might incorporate the odd driving test.
Edition Fall 2024
The river we have chosen for this first edition is the Rhone, with a start and finish in Lyon.
Who can compete?
If you have a valid driving license and common sense, good humor and an interest in having fun and a classic car than you can enter!
What class should I enter?
The more experienced crews might want to enter the Trial Class where the beginners or the “fun” crews might want to stay in the Tour Class. The tour class will have no competition at all, the Trial class will have the odd regularity or driving test. The emphasis in this event will be on the journey, comradery and having fun!
Do I need a competition license?
Yes you do, but if you do not have a valid one we will provide a KNAF rally pass at signing on. This license guarantees the event insurance and there is no extra cost for the participant.
Do I need to be a professional rally driver/navigator?
This is not a speed event but a road rally, run within normal traffic rules. You do not need helmets or fireproof overalls. Above all, the event is intended to be friendly and fun; with time to socialize with your fellow participants and enjoy the scenery.
What does the entry fee include?
You are guaranteed 5 days of wonderful driving roads with hopefully a lot of sun. The Route Book will provide all you need to complete the route and follow the mapbook.
Accommodation and all meals are included, from the Welcome Dinner the evening before the start to the Prize Giving Dinner at the finish. Every crew completing the rally will receive finisher’s awards, and overall winners will also be presented with trophies. Dedicated parking, rally plates and number roundels will also be provided. A team of marshals and mechanics will tag along to ensure the most smiles per mile and make sure we will all reach the finish line.
Not included in the entry fee is your bar bill, fuel, vehicle insurance and car shipping to the start and from the finish back home.
Shipping of the car will be offered to our entrants at the best possible rate.
The entry fee is €6.950 and is payable upon entry. An amount of €1.500 is non-refundable after cancellation by the competitor. The organization will do its utmost to guarantee a refund if we are forced to cancel or postpone with a minimum of 25% (depending on the date of cancellation and the amount of cost incurred for the organization).
