SUMMARY:Safari Trial 2024
DESCRIPTION:Eye to Eye with The Big Five\nOctober 2024 sees the start of our next long distance event\, a drive of three weeks through South Africa\, Namibia and Botswana for Classic Cars and 4x4s.\nThe twenty-seven-day event will take you through the most exciting territories of “The Big Five” game animals\, as well as great scenic highlights not to be missed.\nMarvel at the world’s highest sand dunes of the Kalahari Desert in Sossusvlei. \nYou visit the only game park which allows you to drive your own car.\nYou feel the thunder of the Victoria Falls.\nYou follow the blooming garden route along the beautiful coast of South Africa.\nYou visit wineries near Stellenbosch. \n \nBest of all\, you drive in your own car through one of the best Game Reserves to meet up with the other “Big Five”.\nFor those interested in competition sections there will be two or three a day\, but if you prefer a gentle drive\, there is the Safari Class which just visits the important controls. Due to the nature of the countries we are passing through and the limited high quality accommodation available\, there is a strictly limited number of entries. \nAn entry form can be downloaded from our website here. \nYes man this is Africa\nClick Entryform ST 2024 to download your entry form. \nNelson Mandela once said\, “In my opinion South Africa is the nicest village in the world”\nSouth Africa’s scenic wonders are legendary. From Table Mountain to God’s Window\, our mountains\, forests\, coasts and deserts will feast your eye and lift your spirit…\nWarning! Watching wildlife is addictive. First you start with the Big Five\, then whales\, penguins\, meerkats\, wild dogs\, birds\, dung beetles… \n \nThe Desert Landscape of Sossusvlei\nOne of the most compelling features of Namibia is the astounding landscape of Sossusvlei\, a part of the Namib Desert. We take a tour of this desert landscape of Sossusvlei in Namibia – part of the World’s Ten Greatest Attractions.\nThe most spectacular moments to visit the dunes of Sossusvlei are the minutes before sunset and the minutes after sunrise. It is sometimes windy\, sometimes very\, very wet. The only noise you hear is your own heartbeat.\nThis clay-pan\, even though situated in a desert\, is occasionally flooded by the Tsauchab River\, but mostly remains dry all year round.\nHiking and trekking on the huge red sand dunes is an incredible experience as you get to gorge on the colourful and ethereal panorama. Climb the highest sand dunes in the world. One can sight numerous dead trees in the landscape\, especially in the region called Dead Vlei. These were known to be the camel-thorn trees\, green and very much alive\, until they stopped receiving water from the Tsauchab River.\nWhat makes Sossusvlei fascinating is that the shape of the dunes keeps on changing because of the strong wind currents that blow across the desert. \nEtosha National Park\n \nNamibia and Etosha National Park is an unspoiled safari and adventure destination. There are plenty of parks and places with great opportunities to watch the wildlife and “The Big Five”. Namibia’s bountiful sunshine\, abundant wildlife\, scenic beauty and rich diversity of geological phenomena make the country a sought-after tourist destination to which visitors return again and again. Additional plus points are the friendliness and cultural diversity of its people\, a well-developed infrastructure and an extensive choice of parks\, resorts and accommodation. The latter range from five-star luxury hotels to upmarket guest lodges in the quiet seclusion of the bush. \n\nThe Makgadikgadi Pans\nThe Makgadikgadi Pan is a large salt pan in the middle of the dry savannah of north-eastern Botswana. It is one of the largest salt flats in the world. The pan is all that remains of a formerly enormous lake which once covered an area larger than Switzerland\, but dried up several thousand years ago. Weather permitting\, we may sleep on the pan for the most romantic night of your life. \nVictoria Falls\nVictoria Falls\, so named by the 19th century (Scottish!) explorer Dr David Livingstone\, is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. He saw the falls for the first time in 1855 and said\, “scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”. The falls are one of the main reasons why tourists come to Zimbabwe.\nThe spray rising above the falls has given them its local name\, “The Smoke that Thunders”. The falls are almost too beautiful to paint.\nThere are five different falls within this natural wonder. The Devil’s Cataract\, The Main Falls\, The Horseshoe Falls\, The Rainbow Falls and The Eastern Cataract. The width is 1.6 kilometres and the height up to 108 metres\, twice the size of The Niagara Falls. A truly magnificent marvel of nature. \nPilanesberg\nThe Pilanesberg National Park rises up spectacularly from the great plains of Africa. A flagship reserve and tremendous success illustrating how man’s negative effects on the environment can be returned to conservation\, the spin-off being supporting local communities\, protecting wildlife\, and restoring biodiversity and ecosystems.\nLocated less than 200 km from Johannesburg\, closer to Pretoria\, and then Rustenburg and with thrice weekly flights from Cape Town\, Pilanesberg National Park is one of South Africa’s ultimate adventure tour and wildlife safari destinations.\nA protected game reserve\, over 550 km2 \, the Pilanesberg Alkali Ring Complex is the remnants of vast volcano\, around 1.3 billion years old. This enormous structure stood over 7000 m above sea level. Now greatly reduced and an approximate diameter of approximately 24 km. The Pilanesberg is a rare type of volcano\, categorized as an Alkali Ring Complex due to the mineral content of the fascinating geography. \nA vast road network of over 200km provides ample area and opportunity to explore this truly unique game reserve. \nCape town\nVisit Table Mountain overlooking Cape town.\nEye to eye with the ocean’s gentle giants. South Africa prides itself on the best land-based whale-watching in the world. Watching whales in their natural environment is an overwhelming experience of nature at its most glorious\, making a memory to last a lifetime. \nWhether you visit South Africa’s whale-watching capital Hermanus or choose a scenic spot along the Garden Route or Wild Coast\, seeing these marine giants in their natural environment is an experience that you won’t want to miss. \n \nThe Route\nThe 9\,000 kilometre route has been carefully selected and will take you over great asphalt roads as well as smooth gravel\, to places where the tourists never go. Our motto “the best available” also goes for the carefully selected hotels\, lodges and guest houses\, but bear in mind that we also seek the best available routes\, which are not always where the fairy-tale hotels can be found. As capacity is limited\, we can only take 25 crews for this adventure. \nService\nAn experienced service crew will follow the rally to make sure that nobody gets stranded. But be warned; They are there to get you going again when you are stuck\, not to do your daily maintenance. \nEntries\nThe Safari Trial is by invitation only. With the entrée form you find on the downloads page above\, you may apply to compete. Note that there is a limit on the number of crews that we can invite. Within four weeks of receipt of your application form\, you will be notified if you are invited.\nFor information contact: info@classicevents.nl + 31578 561115 \nHomepageSafari Trial 2024Downloads

SUMMARY:Amsterdam to Paris 2024
DESCRIPTION:HomeAmsterdam-ParisEntrylistSt Lst-Prov. ResultsResultsDownloadsAMSTERDAM – PARIS 2024 \nThe Paris-Amsterdam-Paris road race in 1898 was the first transnational race held in Europe. For six years\, automotive pioneers had been using races and rallies to demonstrate that the “Automobile” was a strong\, reliable\, and fast alternative to the “old-fashioned” horse and carriage. As cars became faster and more dangerous in the next century\, these events were quickly banned throughout Europe. \nThe French speed demons crossed our country at dizzying speeds of 50\, sometimes even 60 km/h\, which was not something the Netherlands was accustomed to at the time. The 1898 edition had only one casualty on a section where the maximum speed of 8 km/h did not apply; a dog. \n125 years later\, and 5 years after our Paris Amsterdam rally\, Classic Events is organizing the revival and final stage of this event: a 4-day rally from Amsterdam to Paris! \nClassic Events’ automotive adventures are designed as relaxed and social events with relatively short days and distances\, the occasional museum or other attraction\, a delightful route\, and the best available hotels along the way. So\, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the drive\, relax\, and explore the surroundings with old and new rally friends. \nAs befits an event inspired by the first international car race ever\, there will naturally be competition for those who want it\, which will be adjusted by the age class of the car. \nThis competition may consist of navigation sections\, regularity stages\, and special tests\, such as on a circuit. The original route of 1898 cannot be reconstructed anymore due to the sprawling cities\, new highways\, and other modern inconveniences. Most of it was driven on gravel roads\, and rivers were crossed with rowing or sailing ferries. The goal of being the first to reach Paris is no longer relevant. In the pre-war categories\, teams dressed in period attire will compete for the “Baron van Zuylen” trophy. Baron van Zuylen was the president and co-founder of the ACF\, one of the organizers of the Paris Amsterdam Paris rally in those years. \nProgram \nDAY 1 – 200 km \nAfter registration and the distribution of the route book at a location near Amsterdam\, we will drive the first regularity of the event on a beautiful and unknown estate! On day one\, we will drive from Amsterdam to the south of the country\, covering a combination of beautiful B-roads and some highways\, but there will also be some immediate challenges. A day to warm up for the more winding roads and hilly landscapes we will undoubtedly encounter on the following days. \nDAY 2 – 330 km \nThe daily distances will be considerably shorter than in 1898\, but we will still be driving around 300 km per day. Naturally\, the distance will vary slightly by class\, with the Tour class covering fewer kilometers than the Sport class. From Vaals\, we will drive through Belgium and Luxembourg to Nennig in Germany\, a small town on the German side of the Moselle River. We will have a great time at the delightful Schloss Hotel Nennig. \nDAY 3 – 300 km \nDay three is a delightful day that will take us through the vineyards for most of the day\, heading towards Epernay and Reims\, the Champagne region. We will undoubtedly get to taste the local specialty at a new and extremely modern hotel surrounded by vineyards. It will be a beautiful day for drivers\, with a focus on competition in the morning\, including a visit to a racing circuit. \nDAY 4 – 270 km \nOn day 4\, we will drive from Epernay to Chantilly. Unfortunately\, due to current environmental regulations and the established environmental zone\, Paris is not accessible for our cars. It will be a delightful day through the rich Marne region with its many monuments from la Grande Guerre (World War I). The rally will end in the shadows of Paris at Chantilly Castle. \nHotels \nTuesday       24 September 2024\nWednesday 25 September 2024\nThursday      26 September 2024\nFriday           27 September 2024 \nWe use the best available and functional hotels during this historic rally. The hotels have in common that they have a historical character and are situated in spacious surroundings with ample parking spaces. \nThe end of the day will be celebrated with a warm welcome and champagne. Every evening\, there will be a served dinner with wines at 8:00 PM. By around 10:00 PM\, the daily prizes will be distributed\, and the program will conclude. The bar will only remain open for participants who wish to share their adventures with like-minded people. \nClasses \nThe event is divided into four categories: \n\nVeteran automobiles up to 1918\nVintage automobiles up to 1932\nPost-vintage automobiles up to 1950\n\nRoute Systems and Competition \nOf course\, no rally is complete without competition. For a rally with such a unique history\, the goal is to find a unique combination between competition\, enjoyable driving\, and history. The rally is worked out in tulip diagrams (bol-pijl). Each day\, there are various navigation sections (stages) where points can be won. We divide the event into “tour” and “sportive.” In the tour\, there is no competition\, while in the sportive category\, there will be 3 to 4 navigation sections or regularities and a circuit test. \nService \nThe service crews on our pour event will consist of two very experienced Pre-War garages. One from the Netherlands and one from Belgium to ensure the best service possible. \nWe are proud to announce that both Historic Competition Services and Altena Classic Service will join the ranks.\nIf you do not know what these garages are capable of and what they represent\, have a look on their website: \nALTENACLASSICSERVICE.NL  \nHCSERVICES.BE  \nAwards Ceremony \nOn Wednesday evening\, in the shadow of Chateau de Chantilly\, participants will be warmly welcomed. When participants begin their dinner\, prizes will also be awarded. In addition to prizes in the three categories\, there are the Baron van Zuylen Trophy (oldest finishing car)\, the Rothschild Trophy (best female team)\, and the Gentlemans Trophy. \nThe Costs \nRegistration for the Amsterdam – Paris 2024 rally is by personal invitation only and is limited to 80 teams. The participation costs are €4\,950.00 per team of 2 people in a double room . \nIncluded are: \n\n4 nights (double room) including dinner and wines\n4 lunches on the road\nService team\nRoute book\, rally plaques\, and door numbers\nFinishers award\nAwards ceremony including dinner\n\nOrganization \nThe organization is in the trusted hands of Classic Events. \nRegister? \nSimply go to the downloads page and get the entry form! \nToggle NavigationHomeAmsterdam-ParisEntrylistSt Lst-Prov. SUMMARY:Winter Trial 2023
DESCRIPTION:Edition 2023\n\nBecause of the unfortunate situation of the world over the past 2 years\, there have been a few changes to the locations and route from our original plan for the 2021 edition.\nThe route has been made even more Covid proof in order to prevent a further cancellation because of possible Covid measures in different Countries. The route will still cross 3 countries but apart from the start in Berchtesgaden\, all overnight halts will be in 1 single country\, Slovenia. \nI assure you\, it has made the route and the whole experience even more attractive. \n\n\nWhat is The Winter Trial?\n\nThe Winter Trial is a six-day regularity rally for classic cars which takes place in the winter.\nIt is an experience driving on snowy roads through rough landscapes whilst navigation your way and try to stay as close as possible to the set times. The teams will drive approximately 350 km per day\, and the experienced teams also drive two night loops of an additional 150 km per night.\nWhat can you expect?\nStart – 4 February 2023 \nFinish – 10 February 2023 \nCars – Classic cars build before 1986 (till 31-12-1985) \nLength – approx. 2.500 km \nNavigation type – Basic map reading & tulips \nCompetition – Regularity’s\, driving tests \nHistory\nThe first ever Winter Trial was organized in 2001. This event was won by Roger Byford and Willy Cave\, driving an MGB. This first edition went from The Netherlands southwards through the Alps to finish in Monte-Carlo. Since then\, we visited all countries in Europe where there is a reasonable snow expectation. Last year The Winter Trail started in Prague and after a complete tour through the Czech Republic the winners were crowned in St. Wolfgang (Austria). For the second year in a row\, the first price was claimed by Hank and Nicole Melse.\n\nWhat is new for 2023? \n\nThe route instruction will be more basic.\nAll new hotels and a partial new route to ensure overnight halts in one country.\nYour Rally Passes and luggage service are included in the entry fee.\nTest penalties have  been revised so that small errors have smaller impact. \nI am new to the Winter Trial\, is that a problem?\nThat definitely is not a concern. In December 2022 we will organize an afternoon for the newcomers to teach you the tips and tricks.\n\nWho can compete?\n\nIf you have a valid driving license and common sense\, good humor and an interest in having fun and a classic car than you can enter!\nWhat type of car is eligible?\nThere will be two categories: Vintage cars of a type in production before the end of 1948\, and Classic cars of a type in production before the end of 1985. Whichever type you decide to bring is completely free. However\, it should be safe and reliable\, have a fuel range of at least 300 km\, and be fitted with an accurate trip meter. \n\nWhat class should I enter?\n\nWe have two classes: The Challenge Class drives the full daytime route\, but does not drive the evening loops. They spend more time in the bar and have lots of fun.\nThe Trial Class is much more competitive. You need a more experienced navigator and be willing to drive two evening loops of about 3 hours each.\n\n\nDo I need a competition license?\n\n\nYes you do\, but if you do not have a valid one\, we will provide a KNAF rally pass at signing on. \n\n\n\nDo I need to be a professional rally driver/navigator?\nThis is not a speed event but a road rally\, run within normal traffic rules. You do not need helmets or fireproof overalls.  Above all\, the event is intended to be friendly and fun; with time to socialize with your fellow participants and enjoy the scenery.\n\nWhat does the entry fee include?\n\nYou are guaranteed 6 days of wonderful driving roads with hopefully a lot of snow. The Route Book will provide all you need to complete the route and plot it onto your own maps.\nAccommodation and all meals are included\, from the Welcome Dinner the evening before the start to the Prize Giving Dinner at the finish. Every crew completing the rally will receive finisher’s awards\, and overall and class winners will also be presented with trophies. Dedicated parking\, metal rally plates and number roundels will also be provided. A team of marshals and mechanics will tag along to ensure the most smiles per mile and make sure we will all reach the finish line.\nNot included in the entry fee is your bar bill\, fuel\, vehicle insurance and car shipping to the start and from the finish back home.\n\nEntry fee\n\n\nA deposit of €1.500 will secure your entry on the event. A balance of €4.490 is then payable before 1 June 2022. \nEntrée fee if fully paid before October 1 2022 € 6.390\nEntrée fee if fully paid after  October 1 2022 € 6.690\nPlease contact the Rally Office for more information.\nBy filling out the entry form and submitting your entry to the rally office you agree to the terms as stated in our event regulations.  \n\n\nHomeWT-2023EntrylistDaily ReportsResultsRouteDownloads

SUMMARY:Arctic Circle 2022
DESCRIPTION:Arctic Circle 2022\na 22 year anniversary\nAround the Baltic   \nIn 2022\, 22 years after the first 2000 Mile Trial\, Classic Events will again take you on a drive of discovery around the Baltic. From the start on 11th June to the Arctic Circle to celebrate Midsummer with the locals and finish in Oslo on the 26th June – this way we reach the most northern part of the route on the longest day of the year. The sun does not set here… \nIt all began as a one-time event after Bart Rietbergen and Keith Baud got to chat sitting on the dock of Monaco harbour after the Monte Carlo Challenge in 1998. This resulted in a company that has now been or¬ganizing International Classic Car rallies all over the world for almost 20 years. We have now decided it is time to return to our roots and as a result many of the original organising team from Holland and England are getting together again to run the event once more. They hope you will look forward to this trip as much as they do. \nThe concept of this event was\, and still is\, to provide you with an unforgettable 7000 km journey through countries and cultures where rallies rarely go. There will be a competitive element with a few regularities a day\, and the occasional special test\, but the social side will be just as important.\nAlthough the 2021 event will not retrace the exact route of the original\, it will still follow the same principle of a circular drive of discovery starting in Western Europe and finishing just north of Oslo.  In between those two points crews will travel through Germany\, Poland\, Lithuania\, Latvia and Estonia before a short ferry crossing of the Baltic takes them to Helsinki for the start of the Scandinavian leg of the journey.\nFrom there they will head into the famous 1000 Lakes territory of Finland before penetrating the endless pine forests and tundra of the far north.  After reaching the Arctic Circle at Rovaniemi\, the capital of Lapland and home to Santa Claus\, the route then swings west into Sweden before crossing the border to reach the breath taking coast of Norway.  The final few days will be spent exploring the dramatic Norwegian fjords and mountains before the Gala Finish just north of Oslo\, and a ferry home to Europe.\nJust like it was when Clas¬sic Rallying started in the 1990’s; there will be simple map based navigation\, straightforward uncomplicated regularities\, and manned timing points and controls. We will be visiting the best overnight hotels available on route\, with two rest days\, and shorter days approaching the end of the rally. Since the sun does not set at this time of year there will definitely be no night driv¬ing\, however hard you try! \nLike the original\, we trust that The Arctic Circle will be an event that you will remember. Europe is an immense continent and you will be driving your favourite car through some of the remot¬est areas known to man. \nWhat type of car is eligible?\nThere will be two categories; Vintage cars of a type in production before the end of 1948\, and Classic cars of a type in production before the end of 1974. Whichever type you decide to bring it should be reliable\, have a fuel range of at least 300km\, and be fitted with an accurate tripmeter. \nDo I need a competition licence?\nYou do not need competition licences\, helmets or fireproof overalls. This is not a speed event but a road rally\, run within normal traffic rules.\nAbove all the event is intended to be friendly and fun; with time to socialise with your fellow participants and enjoy the scenery and other attractions en-route. \nWhat kind of event is it?\nIt is certainly not a Winter Trial like event in the sense of intense\, complicated competition. We will be driving 3 or 4 regularities per day (area permitting) and an occa¬sional driving test. Because of the total distance to be covered\, the individual days could be long\, but the fast\, empty\, and beautifully engineered roads of this part of Europe and Scandinavia should ensure you cover the distance easily.  We are sure that any newcomer will feel right at home on this event. \nWhat will the road and weather conditions be like?\nThe roads we will use are generally good asphalt or some smooth gravel; but there will be no car-breaking sections.  Early summer temperatures in Scandinavian countries vary from around 13-22C  in the south to 8-16 C in the north. Some rainfall may be expected so you should carry warm clothes and waterproofs. However\, twenty years ago we had a heatwave in Poland and snow on the highest roads in Norway – but then that was before global warming! \nWhat does the entry fee include?\nYou are guaranteed 16 days of wonderful driving roads. The Route Book will provide all you need to complete the route and plot it onto your own maps.\nAccommodation and most meals are included\, from the Welcome Dinner the evening before the start to the Prize Giving Dinner at the finish. Every crew completing the rally will receive finisher’s awards\, and overall and class winners will also be presented with trophies. Dedicated parking\, metal rally plates and number roundels will also be provided. A team of marshals and mechanics will tag along to ensure the most smiles per mile and make sure we will all reach the finish line in Oslo.\nNot included in the entry fee is fuel\, vehicle insurance\, car shipping to the start and\, after the event\, from the finish. \nEntry fee\nA deposit of €1500 will secure your entry on the event. A balance of €15.000 is then payable before 1 March 2022\, or €16450 after that date.  Please contact the Rally Office for more information. \nHomeArctic Circle 2022Daily ReportsPhotosResultsRouteEntrylistDownloads
